About
I’m Mathew Kirk, a qualified mathematics teacher with several years of classroom and private tuition experience. I now also work professionally in data and business intelligence, where mathematical reasoning, modelling and clear communication remain central to my work.
I have taught mathematics in UK state schools and private international schools in Bucharest and Sofia. In Sofia, I also taught the local curriculum alongside international programmes. This experience has taught me how to adapt explanations to different curricula, starting points and ambitions.
I believe that everyone is capable of learning mathematics when ideas are developed carefully from first principles. Effective modelling allows learners to understand why a process works, rather than memorising steps without context. Mathematics is ultimately about problem-solving; my aim is to make it feel logical and connected, reducing the burden on memory and helping students approach unfamiliar questions with greater confidence.
I teach 11+ and independent-school entrance mathematics, AQA, Edexcel and OCR GCSE Mathematics, Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics and Cambridge International A-Level Mathematics. I have supported preparation for competitive London school entrance assessments and understand the style and level of practice material used in that process. Every lesson is shaped around what the student already understands, where the gaps are and how each new idea connects to what came before.

I work with a limited number of students so that lessons can be prepared properly and regular weekly times remain consistent. Availability varies through the year, so please include several possible times in your enquiry.
